Cigar case base

Base of cigar case made of the wood of the ship of the line 'Royal George', which sank at Spithead in 1782. The interior is divided into twelve compartments. A silver inset plaque is inscribed with the words: 'PART OF A BEAM FROM ROYAL GEORGE'. SUNK AT SPITHEAD 29th AUGST 1782. RECOVERED 1840.' Inscribed inside the case are the words: 'FROM AUSTIN FRYERS TO HIS FRIEND JEROME K. JEROME WITH BEST WISHES, 1888.'
