The lock gates between the Tidal Harbour and Wellington Dock at Dover. The gates are closed and it is low tide. Berthed in Wellington Dock are the cross channel ferry Empress (1887) and another ferry. The Empress (1887) is berthed starboard side to the quay and has a steadying sail on her forestay. Her stern is out of the picture and a stack of sawn timber on the quay is obscuring her aft funnel and paddle box. A vertical format negative.
