Two machines in the side extension to Number 5 Machine Shop in Chatham Dockyard. A small furnace or hearth is on the left with a vice on a workbench in front of it. On the right is a machine protected by a wire cage which has a large flywheel and is powered by an electric motor. The extension is a 20th century brick-built building that has windows consisting of 25 panes of glass, of which the centre six panes are in an opening frame.
