Looking along the length of one of the bays in Number 5 Machine Shop in Chatham Dockyard. Racks for steel rods are on the left and in the centre and beyond the centre rack is a line of steam hammers. On the right is a gas furnace with door open. The arm of a yellow painted 2 ton crane is in the foreground and a Smith-Keighley 2 ton crane overhead crane is on tracks under the roof which is supported by heavy iron trusses. Transparencies numbers PCT3193 to PCT3195 were taken on the same occasion.
