A smith making a chain at his bench in Number 5 Machine Shop in Chatham Dockyard. He is using an oxy-acetylene blow torch to heat up a piece of steel in a vice to close up a link. An open link has already been formed in the other end of the steel. A vertical format image. Transparencies numbers PCT3365 to PCT3378 were taken during the same operation.
