Solar eclipse official observer card
Yellow solar eclipse official observer card for the total solar eclipse seen by Royal Observatory staff from the grounds of Giggleswick School, near Settle, Yorkshire, on 29 June 1927.
Believed to have been issued to observer Philibert Melotte.
In his expedition report, the Astronomer Royal, Frank Dyson, commented that, 'The field assigned to us was guarded by the School O.T.C. [Officers' Training Corps] and a few policemen, and none was allowed in except those to whom passes signed by the Astronomer Royal and the Superintendent of Police had been given.'
