A lot of information on the expedition undertaken by Mr Waterfield -published in this article 'The BAA total solar eclipse expeditions of 1936', page 15 (harvard.edu) details the equipment used, the planned expedition and the results of the photography expedition. They even discovered a special stellar explosion called a Nova on the same day, telegraphing the Royal Observatory for confirmation.
