A cylindrical tinned sheet-metal stearine lamp burner for the 6 pint cooking apparatus
A cylindrical tinned sheet-metal stearine lamp for the 6 pint cooking apparatus (AAA4008 and part numbers) made for the British Arctic Expedition, 1875-76, led by Captain George Nares. The lamp is made with a flat flange-like rim around the outside to take the lid (AAA4008.6). It contains a thick textile wick impregnated with stearine (solidified waxy oil), which is also in the lamp base. This would sit in the bottom of the tin stand (AAA4008.4) when in use or packed away for sledging.
