A view of the foredeck of the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) at sea. The photographer is standing inside the wheelhouse on the starboard side looking forward and slightly to port. There are 2 red and white and 1 orange and white buoys fastened to the starboard side of the foredeck. A second orange and white buoy is attached to the boom and hanging off the starboard side of the vessel. A red and white buoy is fastened to the foredeck on the port side. The green cable laying apparatus is stationed in front of the deckhouse in the middle ground. The foremast is just aft of the cable laying apparatus but just forward of the deckhouse. This is Slide 3 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Watchkeeping Officer on board the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) owned by the Commercial Cable Company of London from 22 January 1973 to 26 April 1973. The series consists of 62 slides.
