A view looking aft of the deckhouse and bridge of the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) at sea. The photographer is standing just forward of the cable laying apparatus on the port side looking aft.. Two red and white buoys and fastened to the foredeck on the port side, parallel with the cable laying apparatus and the fore mast. A third red and white buoy is fastened to the foredeck on the port side in parallel with the deckhouse. The foremast is positioned just aft of the cable laying apparatus and forward of the deckhouse. The bridge and superstructure are in the background. This is Slide 5 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Watchkeeping Officer on board the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) owned by the Commercial Cable Company of London from 22 January 1973 to 26 April 1973. The series consists of 62 slides.
