A view of the cable repeaters on board the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922). The room is very dark with the only light source coming through grills at the top of the image. small metal clips are attached to the grating on the ceiling. 3 large black cable repeater shave the numbers 'R23' painted in white on the side. The three repeaters are suspended off the floor and held with chains on a metal frame in the foreground. A small black metal drum is fastened to a plank of wood with rope on the right hand side of the image. This is Slide 31 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Watchkeeping Officer on board the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) owned by the Commercial Cable Company of London from 22 January 1973 to 26 April 1973. The series consists of 62 slides.
