The photographer is standing on a Red Funnel Line ferry looking in a south easterly direction towards Castle Point at East Cowes. There is one Royal Navy frigate (possibly Leander class) at anchor in the middle ground and another in the right background. This is Slide 16 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as summer relief Chief Officer on board various ferries operated by Red Funnel (also known as Southampton, Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Company Limited) from 27th July 1973 until late August 1973. This series consists of 25 slides.
