One of the crewman is the Engineer who the photographer has named 'Pat' on the card mount but it is not clear who of the two crewman this is.Two ends of seperate cable are held on stands on opposite side of the cabin and the crewman are preparing to join them together in the foreground. neither crewman is looking at the photographer. This is Slide 16 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Watchkeeping Officer for the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) owned by Commercial Cable Company of London from 16 December 1974 to 21 March 1975. This series consists of 45 slides.
