Three crewmen are standing on the port side of the sheave whilst four people are standing on the starboard side of the sheave. This is Slide 5 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Watchkeeping Officer for the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) owned by Commercial Cable Company of London from 1 June 1975 to 6 July 1975. This series consists of 25 slides. The area the photograph was taken is called Amnisos by the photographer.
