On board the Royal Navy battleship Royal Sovereign (1891) at Lemnos.

On board the Royal Navy battleship Royal Sovereign (1891) while anchored at Lemnos. The photographer is looking forward from the port side of the after superstructure during hands to bathe. A number of the crew are in the water and some are hanging onto lines suspended from the boat boom. A small group are using the accommodation ladder to reach the water. The ship's 42 feet launch is at the boat boom and she has her mast stepped. A Canopus class battleship, almost certainly the Canopus (1897) herself, and two torpedo boat destroyers at anchor in the background. Vertical format.
