On board the coasting barge John Bayly (1895) while under sail in the River Thames estuary, bound down. The photographer is standing on the starboard side of the forecastle looking aft and to port. The hatch is covered and battened down and the dinghy is in the davits at the starboard quarter. A well dressed man known as "Tom" is leaning against the mast facing the camera. The skipper is at the wheel. The upper part of her masts are out of the picture. Vertical format.
