Margate pier, Kent, in a north-east gale

A study of Margate pier, Kent, during a north-east gale. The photographer is on the sea wall to the east of the pier and is looking west-by-south. Waves are crashing against the pier and two spritsail barges are berthed in the protected harbour. The lighthouse on the end of the pier, built in 1828 and destroyed in 1953, can be seen between the masts of the barges.
