The bridge of a small steam coaster named Mary (fl.1912)

On board a small steam vessel named Mary (fl.1912) while under way in the thames estuary. The photographer is looking aft from inside the ship's dinghy which is stowed immediately in front of the bridge on a hatch cover. Four men are on the bridge which is protected by a low canvas dodger. The four men are identified from starboard to port as "Engine Room Complement", "Captain", "Chef" and "Crew". Large ventilators are on either side of the funnel which has a short steam pipe and a very low mounted steam whistle. The ship's compass is on a tall timber pole attached to the front of the bridge. See notes. Negative number P75294 shows the forepart of this vessel.
