Spritsail barges milling about waiting for the start of the Coronation Race on the River Medway, Kent. The two nearest boats are the river staysail barge Surge (1904) and the coasting barge Northdown (1924). The Surge (1904) is seen from very fine off the starboard bow and the Northdown (1924) from just abaft the port beam. The barge broadside to the camera on the right is the Dunstable (1891).
