Whitstable oyster vessels

The foredeck of a Whitstable oyster boat with F65 written on a barrel on the port deck ahead of the windlass is seen from the harbour wall above, with the chain from the foc'sle winch made fast to a harbour bollard. Ahead of the nearest bawley is another with bowsprit withdrawn inboard and spars laid on deck, with a large deck capstan mounted between the aft companionway and hatch cover. Further away to the left is an open clinker-built inshore motor fishing vessel approx 25ft long, with its shallow transom aft of the keel, rudder post and propeller. Two men work on board, sheltered by two canvas awnings mounted on hinged frames. Various other fishing boats are seen in the crowded harbour, including a Falmouth-registered boat with doghouse, regd. FH4.
