Folkestone aux. luggers
The Folkestone lugger Day Spring (regd FE217) is seen on legs aground in the foreground of this image, taken from the Folkestone harbour wall some 200ft away. Ahead of the Day Spring is a punt, and the bow of another is shown alongside. Beyond are the luggers Winifred (regd FE97) and Dorothy Margaret (regd FE21), also aground, both at the foot of a long timber jetty with a gridiron at its base. On the deck of the Day Spring, a fisherman looks through a forward hatch into the boat's hold. To his left is a large winch amidships behind the foremast, with a windlass further forward, directly behind the foremast. The boat has an apparently unstayed bowsprit. A tall chimney pipe rises from the starboard side of the deck amidships.
