Hastings luggers

The Hastings lugger Henry Harris, whose registration number is not visible, is viewed from the port stern quarter beached at Hastings. Its stern is of the eliptical type where the hull planks meet at the centreline, from which hangs a short iron or steel rudder. The propeller shows this lugger to boast auxiliary power. The lugger furthest from the Henry Harris has the same type of planked eliptical stern, whereas the two between them have the concave lute sterns more frequent among Sussex fishing luggers.
