Hastings luggers

The Hastings lugger Primrose is seen stern-on, beached at Hastings. A three-blade propeller is seen to port of the rudder, and a smaller, twin-blade propeller to starboard. The Primrose's long bumkin projects from above the stern towards the camera, while the mizzen lugsail, brailed to its yard, is hoisted out of the way on the mizzen mast. A ladder leans on the starboard topsides. The image makes clear the flat floors of the type, facilitating beaching without recourse to legs for stability.
