This image focuses in the foredeck of the scallop boat Cymba (1893), in J.D. Foster's yard at Emsworth (according to Negatives index P.70000-P.79999). Aft of the mast is a hatch with a sliding cover, and behind that, another with a wooden grill lid. Before the mast on the port side of the foredeck is a large winch, and another is partly visible on the starboard side. The precise function of a deck fitting aft of the stemhead with three belaying pins is not clear, although it appears likely to be connected with hauling in dredges.
