'Satinwood Bridge' in Sri Lanka

A black and white photograph of Satinwood Bridge over the Mahaweli Ganga river in Sri Lanka. Three figures can be seen standing on the bridge, one of them holding the guardrail and another carrying some sort of long bundle across his shoulders. the bridge has stone sections on each bank and the central span is made from interlocking wood. Vegetation is visible on both banks, as well as the slope of a hill the background, possibly featuring cultivated fields or a plantation. Original caption (within the photograph): 'Satinwood Bridge'.

This bridge was built in the early 1830s by John Fraser (1790-1882). Satinwood is a tropical hardwood known for its strength and ability to withstand heat and damp. The bridge was replaced by an iron structure in 1805.
