Indian soldiers cooking

A black and white photograph of Indian soldiers cooking at Assab in Eritrea. Around ten men are visible in the foreground, clustered around a griddle, pots and other cooking gear. One man is sat on the ground with his back to the camera, attending to bread cooking on the gridle. Another man is stooping to pick up more bread from a full pot. Three men, two of them in turbans, stand in a row further back. More soldiers, piles of equipment and a single storey building can be seen in the background. Original caption (handwritten in ink beneath): ‘In the evening the Indian troops prepare their principal meal’.
