A general view of Hong Kong Harbour looking north from the Mid-Levels with Kowloon in the background. In the foreground is the Union Church and the Victoria Peak Tramway (completed in May 1888). The warships in the harbour are, from left to right, Firebrand (1877), Tyne (1878), Meeanee (1848), Wivern (1863), Penguin (1876), Leander (1882), Victor Emanuel (1855), Linnet (1880), Japanese Itsukushima (1889), Severn (1885), Peacock (1888) andAlacrity (1885).
