Monument to Luiz de Camoes at Macao

A monument to Luiz Vaz de Camoes (1524-1580) in a grotto in Macao (also known as Macau), China. The monument consists of a square stone column, heavily inscribed, topped with a stone bust of Luiz Vaz de Camoes wearing a laurel wreath headband. De Camoes was a writer and poet and from 1557 to 1569 was chief warrant officer in Macau. it was while he was in this post that he wrote his epic poem "Os Lusiadas" which was published in Lisbon in 1572. Vertical format.
