Whitby harbour
Looking east across the River Esk from a quay near the Baxtergate district of Whitby. A stack of herring barrels is on the quayside on the left in front of a 2 masted topsail schooner. A couple of cobles are berthed bow on to the quay ahead of the schooner. Two men and a woman are on the quay. A number of cobles are in the river. On the opposite bank of the river are sail makers and ship chandlers stores.
