The Jami-Ul-Alfar Mosque from street level

A black and white portrait photograph showing the Jami-Ul-Alfar Mosque (also know as the Red Mosque or Red Masjid) in Colombo from street level. The building's distinctive striped brickwork (red and white) can be seen on the exterior, including its minarets. Various Sri Lankan pedestrians can be seen on the street outside, as well as a parked motorcar. Original caption (handwritten beneath): 'Mohammedan Church'. The page, containing ALB0575.30-32, also has the joint caption 'Colombo'.

'Mohommedan' is now considered archaic, and offensive by some, and is rarely used. The description of this building as a 'church' is clearly both incorrect and inappopriate; it may have been used because the album compiler was unfaimilar with terms such as mosque and masjid.
