'Battle Cruisers in the Forth'
Signed by artist above an inscription, as title, lower left (both in pencil). This atmospherically misty finished watercolour shows, on the left, a battlecruiser which is either the 'Indomitable' or 'Inflexible', before the fitting of coffee-box searchlight towers on the third funnel but after the enlargement of the fore control-top. The date therefore has to be some time in 1917. The ship on the extreme right is probably the battlecruiser 'Lion' but possibly her sister 'Princess Royal'. The view is apparently westward, with the Forth Bridge as backdrop.
