HMS 'Defence' and 'Warrior', passing the Battlecruiser Squadron at the Battle of Jutland, 31 May 1916, about 19.20
Signed by the artist, lower right. The armoured cruiser 'Defence', seen from off the port bow, leading the armoured cruiser 'Warrior' between the British Battlecruiser Force and the German High Seas Fleet to attack the German light cruiser 'Wiesbaden' at about 19.20 on 31 May 1916. Beyond the 'Defence' is the battlecruiser 'Princess Royal' and beyond the 'Warrior' is the battlecruiser 'Lion', Admiral Beatty's flagship. Items PAF0915 and PAF0916 are alternative versions of the same event but this is the only one Wyllie has signed, suggesting he regarded it as the finished version for whatever his immediate purpose was - possibly magazine use.
