A black and white landscape photograph showing a man posing in carpet shop or stall. The man, presumably the shopkeeper, is sat on a carpet draped over a stone step or ledge, possibly outdoors. He his wearing a turban, robe with cummberbund or sash round his waist, and shoes; his hands are resting on his lap. Rolled caprets can be seen to his right and hanging above him. A varied collection of other merchandise is also visible around him, including metal pans and rope. Original caption: (above the photograph, handwritten in ink) 'A Persian Carpet shop "Bushire' [Bushehr]'.

Bushehr is in present-day Iran (formerly 'Persia'), on the coast of the Persian Gulf (also called the Arabian Gulf).
