Her hands are by her side and she has basket containing produce, possibly fruit, on her head. She is wearing a dress and headwrap made of two different patterned fabrics. Towards the left of the image is another women with her back to the camera. She is looking down at a pile of baskets. She is wearing a white or light-coloured skirt, jacket, hat and earings. Baskets are arranged in rough piles and rows around her, many of them of the same design (with lids, handles and bands across them). Further back, and taking up all of the upper part of the image, is an open-sided structure consisting of a roof held up by wooden pillars. The rafters and underside of the roof is visible. More women, standing and seated can be seen under this structure; there is also at least one man, who wearing a short-sleeved shirt and cap. A sign reading 'NO BOTTLES TO BE BOUGHT OR SOLD IN THIS MARKET / BY ORDER H.L. HARRIS TOWN CLERK' is attached to one pillar. There is another sign, some of which is out of the frame, can be seen on the right of the image. The following words are visible: 'NOT', 'SPEED', '5 MILES' and 'THIS' on it. Another, similar, structure can be seen in the background to the left of the photo, with palm trees beyond this. Original caption (handwritten beneath in white): 'MARKET DAY'.
