HMS 'Fearless' with destroyers and a US battleship in the Forth
Inscribed by the artist 'Fearless', lower left, and 'U.S. battleship in Forth', lower right. Two Admiralty R-class destroyers and one S-class (in the foreground), with the four-funnelled scout cruiser 'Fearless' (1912). The R-class vessel on the left seems to have part of her stern attenuated or the mainmast has been shown too far aft. The US battleship in the right background is either the 'Wyoming' (1911) or 'Arkansas' (1911) and two tethered observation balloons fly above the British ships. Wyllie's viewpoint is either an unidentifiable high point ashore, or imagined. The date shown has to be 1918.
