Grindelwald

Grindelwald is a Swiss ski resort south-east of Interlaken. Although the Wyllies were married in Swizterland in 1879, this and other watercolours of the resort in the collection are the only evidence available that they had a holiday there, probably around 1920. Wyllie was especially skilled in painting snow landscapes, not only abroad, but also around his home on the Medway when the river froze in 1896.
