Wyllie was extremely versatile in the effects he was able to achieve, sometimes portraying the vivid display of Mediterranean sea and light, or, as in this watercolour the more sombre atmosphere of the Scandinavian coast. He travelled extensively in northern Europe, to France, Holland, Norway, Sweden Denmark, and Russia.
