'V82 German Destroyer in Fountain Lake'
Inscribed by the artist, as title, lower left. This watercolour study shows the former German destroyer 'V82', launched on 5 July 1916, and which her crew scuttled with the rest of the interned German fleet at Scapa Flow on 21 June 1919. However, she was one of the ships on which the British intervened, cut her anchor cable and beached her before she sank. She was later refloated and towed to Portsmouth, and is shown here beached on the mudflats in Portsmouth Harbour to the west of Fountain Lake. She was broken up at Portsmouth in 1922.
