Sr Charles Wager Kt. Rear Admiral of ye Red etc
An oval half-length portrait of Sir Charles Wager (1666–1743) wearing a long wig. Lettered beneath the image with the title, ‘Sr Charles Wager Kt. Rear Admiral of ye Red &c.’, and the production details, ‘M. Dahl Pinxit. / J. Faber Fecit Ao. 1710.’ This portrait was engraved by John Faber the Elder in 1710 after an oil painting by Michael Dahl. Wager is referred to in the inscription as rear-admiral of the red, which he became in November 1709, and as a knight bachelor, which he was appointed in December 1709. He later became an admiral and First Lord of the Admiralty. (Updated May 2019.)
