A sailing ship at sea in rough weather
Oil painting, signed and apparently dated lower left: 'John Everett', and possibly '1/19' (i.e. January 1919, the 1 over the 19). The general form of the ship and hints of stern decoration suggest that the vessel, in what is clearly a studio composition, may be 'Cutty Sark' or a similar clipper. Despite the conditions it is still carrying substantial reduced sail and, unusually, with a storm gaff-driver astern. [PvdM 2/18]
