Portrait of the 'Mary'
A starboard-quarter view of the ‘Mary’, 8-gun yacht, built 1677, rebuilt 1727. There are seven wreathed ports on a broadside, three with guns. On the stern is an oval shield bearing a foul anchor, supported by a lion and a unicorn. Inscribed in brown ink ‘d Maeri’.
Offset, not rubbed on the back, from the same original as PAH1862, a drawing which in 1926 was in a private collection.
This drawing was probably made in connection with pictures of the journey of William of Orange and Princess Mary to Holland in 1677. Approximately dated by the subject and watermark.
