Cruiser 1856
Portrait in oil on board of 'Cruiser', launched in 1852 as 'Cruizer', but known as 'Cruiser' from 1857. The board is marked "7" on the back and is possibly part of a set. Two other pictures by Luigi Galea of 'Monarch' and 'Opal' are similar in size, style and frame. The frames have the names of the ships marked on them, in this case 'Cruiser'. She is depicted starboard broadside under full sail. Four gulls dart around the choppy waves in the foreground, whille behind 'Cruiser' is an unidentified coastline with what appears to be another sloop pictured in the background on the right.
