HM Queen Victoria's tour through the Fleet in Cork Harbour, 3 August 1849

A view of the first leg of a three-stop, eleven day Irish tour (Cork-Dublin-Belfast) undertaken by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert on 2-12 August 1849.

Inscribed: “Her Majesty Queen Victoria’s tour thro the fleet in the Harbour of Cork, on the 3d of August, 1849. Publd for the benefit of the Cork Masonic Female Orphan Asylum. Dedicated to Coln J.C. Chatterton K.H. Provincial Grand Master of Munster S.G.I.G. 33rd by his Friend and Brother Oliver J. Jones, 1st Lieut. H.M.S. Ganges”.

The ‘Ganges’ is shown on the right hand side of the picture, with the Royal Yacht in the background passing behind it. Another warship is at left, a smaller paddle steamer centre-left, and numerous rowboats, their crews with arms aloft in acclamation of the royal party, in the foreground.
