The ship J P Whitney
A ship portrait in oils of the 'J P Whitney' at sea, with a mountainous landscape and port in the background. Built in Castine, Maine in 1853, the ship took part in the cotton trade under the ownership of J. P. Whitney and Co. of New Orleans. They sold the ship at Calcutta in 1869 and it sank in the Indian Ocean later that year.
