French fighting vessel Montebello 120

Watercolour of the French naval ship Montebello in port broadside view in a calm sea. Some sails are hoisted but others are looped up. She flies French flags from the mizzen mast head and gaff. Other vessels can be seen in the distance, as can a coastline. From the inscription, Montebello was under the command of Vice-Admiral de La Susse. He was removed from his command in disgrace in 1853, due to his fleet's late arrival at a rendezvous with the British fleet at the outbreak of the Crimean War [source: W. Laird Clowes, The Royal Navy, Vol. VI, p.396].

Mounted on page 69, in an album with PAI1013-PAI1103, PAI1105-PAI1110.
