The Fleet at Anchor. Furl Sails! Away Aloft!!!
This hand-coloured lithograph shows a busy scene of the British fleet anchored in a calm sea with the crews massed in the rigging furling the sails. From left to right the identified ships are the Prince Regent (1823) (in the distance, in port broadside view), St Jean d’Acre (1853) (in mid-distance, in port broadside view), Queen (1839) (centre of the picture, in the distance, port bow view), Duke of Wellington (1852) (right of centre, foreground, in bow view) and Agamemnon (1852) (in distance, astern the Duke of Wellington, in starboard bow view). There are several ships’ cutters and small sailing boats in the foreground.
