Kit bag

RNVR kit bag belonging to Baron Frederick Hounsell Damers. The donor Mrs P.H. Parker used it at boarding school and as volunteer P.H. Dammers F.A.N.Y during the Second World War. The kitbag is made of tarred canvas, machine sewn, with a cotton khaki strip sewn round the mouth. It has a cord drawstring. A rope reinforcement is sewn round the base which has a brass nameplate inscribed: 'BFH DAMMERS CH', On the side is stencilled: '5th LONDON MOTOR ATS', 'DAMMERS'. Mrs Parker painted the house flag of Housell sailing ships, Bridport to Newfoundland on the side. The bag is painted with two flags, one a blue triband with a red centre stripe, the second divided diagonally white and blue with the blue triangles at the ends.
