Flora

Polychrome painted and gilded nameboard from the 'Flora'. It reputedly came from a wreck on Guthers Rock, Scilly, in 1853 but the recorded details would appear to relate to the loss there of the ‘Sultana’ of Hamburg rather than the ‘Flora’. There is no recorded wreck of a ‘Flora’ in the Isles of Scilly and identification is not helped by its being such a popular name, particularly in Scandinavia. A number of ‘Floras’ can be found in most 19th-century editions of Lloyd’s Register of Shipping.
