Dryads were tree nymphs, the name derived from the Greek 'Drys' an oak. The badge is diamond-shaped with a gold rope twist border representing an auxiliary. It is made of cast brass, painted and drilled at the corners. 'DRYAD' is inscribed on the reverse. HMS 'Dryad' was a navigation school from 1919, the dividers in reference to navigation.
