Terrestrial facsimile globe gores. They form a set with GLB0268 and GLB0269. The gores were reproduced by Rand McNally & Company at reduced scale, from the facsimile reproduction of a Behaim globe by E.G. Ravenstein. The copies described here are not exact reproductions of the original. Geographical details on the gores are the same as those of Behaim GLB0253. There are numerous symbols, for example, for cities and mountain ridges, dwellings of indigenous people and flags with coats of arms, animals and ships. The map represents the world as it was known before 1492. Along the latitude scale there are explanations for the length of day for various latitudes and the astrological symbols for the planets.
